Prototype for a metroidvania about slaying gods and claiming their powers for yourself. Original scope was way too big, and I want to move on to another project.

Thanks for the update. The wings work now, and I got to fight the second boss. The background looks really cool, and the attacks are challenging enough. Was still beaten by sword spamming tho, lol.

I like that the feather shot can only be used by dealing 3 attacks to enemies without taking damage. It prevents cheesy zoning and acts like a reward for being good at melee. I was confused at first why I couldn't use it, but after spamming every key, apparently feather shot is "J", not "L". I thought it was gonna be the "Strong Wings" incident again, lol.

Pretty lost on where to go next, actually. The path to the second boss was pretty much a one-way road, so idk where the third boss is.  I probably missed a doorway when I was going to the Aegis blessing.

But I sometimes encounter a bug where whenever I respawn, there's a chance of me just spawning out of bounds. I tried finding an opening even tho I know it's completely closed off. Falling to the blue void just seals my fate there. Basically, out of bounds = a lost save file.

I also encountered the bug in the doorway at the bottom of the room right before the first boss. The bug usually after I got the double jump, and when I pass through the doorway, I always end up out-of-bounds in the 3-orbs blessing room.

I'm sorry I can't show images of what I'm talking about; it would've made the comment make more sense. For some reason, I always get "post: body: expected text between 1 and 20480 characters" when I post a comment with images. I hope I describe the bug well enough tho.

I (hopefully) fixed the issue with spawning out of bounds.

The path to the last boss is going all the way right from the start, then going up when you can't go right anymore.

Sadly, I still encountered the out-of-bounds bug.
I had a thought that maybe it was too crowded in the room, so I killed all the enemies first before recreating the bug; still ended up out-of-bounds.

Since this is a prototype game, I won't make as many suggestions/complaints as I would on beta/released games. However, I think they're still a bit noteworthy:

  1. First one I immediately noticed - why "H" to attack lol? I'm familiar with LMB, J, and X, but not H. It kinda discouraged me from using arrow keys and forced me to use WASD. You must have some pretty weird keybinds if your attack is H, lol.
  2. Was it intentional for the attack to be able to aim in 8 directions? It would be nice if it was also stated along with the "Press H to attack" at the beginning; I only found it out by messing around. Even then, it's pretty ineffective to attack diagonally since you're also moving while attacking.
  3. I wish there was a visual indicator when hitting enemies. I know there's a sound for it that plays, but seeing it is usually more informative; even just a flash of red is fine. And having both indicators combined is even better.
  4. The "Strong Wings" skill doesn't work when acquired. I've tried resetting my saves and reacquiring them, but it just plays the animation without the vertical height. I assume it wasn't coded in yet, but then how do you get over the double jump gap to the left of the boss room? Or was there a dead end over there?
  5. There were times when the inventory wasn't responsive. Not equipping a blessing even when I'm pressing "Space", or the inv screen outright not moving. I wonder why it sometimes work, sometimes doesn't.

There were also the audio sometimes not playing, or the occasional no-clips during transitions, but I think they're mostly due to the game not being as polished yet. There's also the "Lethal Recompense" blessing desc. and empty inventory screen, but maybe they're beyond the double-jump gap that I can't cross.

Hope I didn't come across as harsh lol. Just stating what I experienced with (some of) the game. That said, I do love the concept, especially since it looked like you were gonna add gods from different beliefs. Imagining a finished game with that in mind is pretty cool.

Also, does the first boss have HP, or is it really unbeatable? I got to see Phase 2(?) atleast, so I was curious lol

Hey thanks for the feedback! I'll take a look at the double jump not working; that's kinda important for reaching the other two bosses. For everything else I'm not too worried as I don't plan on continuing the project and just wanted to publish what I had finished.
As for the first (tutorial) boss, you can't beat him, but if you get him low enough you'll trigger the cutscene that way. And yes original plan for the game was to have three towers for different mythologies, Norse, Egyptian, and Greek. But it was way too large for me to complete alone lol
